Dear Rotaractors, Rotarians, and Friends,
This year Rotaract District 5280’s motto is “Ownership. Pride. Legacy”. In its
spirit, we will concentrate on forging even stronger unity and cooperation
between all clubs in the District by providing a variety of service
opportunities and programs aimed to inspire Rotaractors to assume true
ownership of their projects, pride in the job done, and strive to leave a
legacy behind themselves, for generations of Rotaractors to come.
To acquaint new club members with each other and instill
comradeship, District team is working on a gamut of social events for the
entire Rotary year. Furthermore, in order to build better understanding of
goals and values of Rotaract program, we are preparing informational packages
and training seminars for all interested Rotaractors, and specifically incoming
Rotaract officers. We are determined to prepare each participating Rotaractor
for this Rotary year, and facilitate their further growth in the organization
by providing in-depth review of Rotary Family’s structure and functions. The
highlight of this year’s training segment is Rotaract Leadership Meeting – a
seminar covering a wide variety of topics from strategic planning for service
organization, to basics of professional conduct, to vocational training. Our
team hopes to provide all participants with knowledge and skills that will not
only help them to be a better Rotaractor but also will transcend into their
academic and professional life.
To build stronger inter-club ties and for the sake of good
old fun, District will be hosting several social events through the year. We
are striving to create fun, friendly environment that will allow both
cross-town rival clubs, and recurrent partners in service, to mingle and create
better social bonds. Ultimately, we hope to acquaint Rotaract clubs with each
other beyond emails and phone calls. A notable example of such event would be a
District Picnic - an event honoring last year’s highest fundraising club
Marymount College Rotaract.
Rotaract District 5280 has a long history of international
involvement in various countries and geographical areas. This year we are
writing a new page in that history by participating in Heifer Arc program that
has proven to be a hit last year. We intend to mobilize District clubs to work
harder, market their respective fundraisers more thoroughly, and raise even
more money than last year to benefit impoverished Ecuadorian communities.
To cap our year off with something big, we invite every
willing Rotaractor to join our team in Montreal
for Rotary\Rotaract convention in June 2010. Let’s make District 5280 shine on
international level with its ownership of humanitarian projects, pride in goals
accomplished, and community service legacy in the making!
Yours in service,
Rotaract District 5280
